A Qualitative Study on Inmates’ Views on
Methadone Treatment

Proposed project submitted to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

Substance Abuse Policy Research Program. This study will investigate views from inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center regarding heroin, methadone, and the methadone maintenance program (MMT) that will be established at the jail. One-on-one semi-structured interviews will be conducted to 40 heroin-addicted inmates: 20 who have not participated in a MMT program and 20 who are enrolled in an MMT program. These same participants will be re-interviewed 3 months after their release date to follow-up on their drug use and to see if their views on methadone treatment have changed.
