BHRCS Data Analysis Capabilities

At BHRCS, research analysts have a broad range of skills and experience.  Statistical analysts include statisticians, biostatisticians and psychologists who have been practicing from 13 to 37 years.  The majority of the researchers have PhDs across the spectrum, which includes Statistics, Biostatistics, Program Evaluation, Medical, Education, Public Heath, and Anthropology degrees.

The scope of analyses that BHRCS staff have conducted includes public policy issues, public health issues, treatment interventions, alcohol use and abuse, and other drug use and abuse.  Among the many analyses that BHRCS staff have conducted are substance abuse treatment interventions, alcohol and related mental health problems, screening programs for impaired driving offenders, impaired driving recidivism rates, pregnancy education, prenatal substance abuse, youth drug use, youth screening programs for drug abuse and other mental health problems, methadone maintenance effectiveness, homeless alcohol abuse treatment interventions, and substance abuse interventions for health care workers.

Populations with whom BHRCS staff has worked include multi-ethnic at-risk youth and adults.  BHRCS is committed to providing culturally sensitive data collection processes.

Data management and analyses are conducted utilizing both quantitative and qualitative techniques and software (e.g., SAS and SPSS programming languages for quantitative analyses and NVIVO and ATLAS for qualitative analyses) by experienced analysts.  The BHRCS computing capacity is capable of storing and handling large datasets.  Former projects have included more than 10,000 participants on whom hundreds of variables were collected, managed and analyzed.  Database and other support staff follow quality control procedures to ensure data integrity and protection of sensitive information.  BHRCS strictly adheres to government participant protection guidelines.
